About MOOCs@Illinois


In the summer of 2012, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign partnered with Coursera tto offer free online courses to anyone in the world with an internet connection. Since then, Illinois has made great strides in building upon its reputation as a leader in the field of online education. Goals of MOOCs@Illinois

When Illinois first partnered with Coursera to offer MOOCs, it did so with a number of goals in mind.

    With the landscape of online learning continually changing, Illinois is poised to take a leading role in developing high-quality and impactful online courses.
  • Second, to continue its tradition of excellence in research.
    Illinois MOOCs provide a robust platform and data-rich environment from which to pursue cutting-edge research on online teaching and learning.
  • Lastly, to increase its levels of outreach and engagement.
    Illinois has utilized MOOCs as a way to better connect with non-traditional and lifelong learners both within the state and across the globe.

In joining the MOOC movement, Illinois continues to demonstrate leadership in higher education, building upon its established record of quality and innovation in research, education and outreach.
